This 14 Days Rwenzori & Gorilla Adventure combines one of East Africa's most demanding mountain experiences with some of Uganda's most remarkable primate encounters. Starting from Entebbe, before travelling west into Uganda for an unforgettable journey through the Rwenzori Mountains, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and Mgahinga National Park.
The centerpiece is a multi-day Rwenzori trek through changing mountain vegetation, high-altitude bogs, giant lobelias, glaciers and rugged alpine terrain, culminating in an attempt on Margherita Peak at 5,109 metres. After descending from the mountains, the adventure continues with gorilla trekking in Bwindi, a forest nature walk, golden monkey tracking and time around Lake Bunyonyi. The journey concludes with transfer toward the Uganda–Rwanda border or Entebbe for onward travel, with connection back to Nairobi.
Planning note: Your supplied routing says the safari starts and ends in Entebbe, while the operational itinerary uses Entebbe for arrival and departure. I have therefore treated Entebbe International Airport as the international start/end point, with the Uganda section beginning and ending through Entebbe.

Depending on your arrival time at Entebbe International Airport, you will meet your Danke Rwenzori Tours driver-guide and begin the journey west toward Kasese. The drive takes approximately 8–9 hours, passing through changing landscapes and rural communities as you approach the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. On arrival, check in and settle into your lodge.
Meals: Half Board — Dinner and breakfast.
Transport: Private 4x4 safari vehicle; approximately 8–9 hours from Entebbe to Kasese.
Overnight: Ihamba Lakeside Safari Lodge.

After an early breakfast, drive to the Nyakalengija trailhead at approximately 1,600m, where the Uganda Wildlife Authority and mountain team provide a briefing before your trek begins. The trail passes Bakonjo homesteads, banana plantations and steep foothills before following the Mubuku River. You will cross the Mahoma River and gradually climb through Podocarpus forest toward Nyabitaba.
The day's hiking introduces you to the Rwenzori's forest environment while allowing your body to begin adapting to the increasing altitude. After reaching Nyabitaba Hut at approximately 2,650m, settle in, enjoy dinner and rest ahead of the longer mountain stages.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private vehicle from Kasese to Nyakalengija; approximately 1 hour, followed by trekking.
Overnight: Nyabitaba Hut — 2,650m.

Today you continue deeper into the Rwenzori Mountains, descending through forest toward the bridge below the convergence of the Bujuku and Mubuku Rivers. The trail then enters bamboo vegetation, where moss-covered sections can be slippery and require careful footing. As you gain altitude, the vegetation gradually changes toward giant heather and alpine plants.
You will continue through increasingly dramatic mountain scenery toward the Nyamileju rock shelter before traversing boggy terrain to John Matte Hut. At approximately 3,350m, this is another important stage of your altitude progression and a chance to rest before the higher sections of the trek.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking from Nyabitaba to John Matte; approximately 6–7 hours on foot.
Overnight: John Matte Hut — 3,350m.

After breakfast, begin your ascent toward Bujuku Hut at approximately 3,900m. The trail crosses the Bujuku River before entering the lower Bigo Bog, where giant lobelias create one of the distinctive landscapes of the Rwenzori. You will cross the bog before continuing through the upper Bigo Bog toward Lake Bujuku.
As you approach the lake, the surrounding peaks become increasingly impressive, including views toward Mount Stanley. The day's hike involves challenging boggy and uneven terrain, so careful pacing is important. Continue to Bujuku Hut for dinner and an overnight stay at altitude.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking from John Matte to Bujuku; approximately 5–7 hours on foot.
Overnight: Bujuku Hut — 3,900m.

An early start takes you from Bujuku toward Elena Hut at approximately 4,541m. The trail climbs the slopes west of Lake Bujuku through dramatic high-altitude terrain and the unusual giant groundsel vegetation. You will ascend toward Scott-Elliot Pass, including a steep section equipped with a metal ladder.
At the trail junction, the route to Elena Hut continues over steep and rocky terrain toward the base of Stanley Glacier. This is a demanding high-altitude day, and the pace will be determined by the mountain conditions and your group. Arrive at Elena Hut, where you will rest in preparation for the Margherita Peak summit attempt.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking from Bujuku to Elena; approximately 5–7 hours on foot.
Overnight: Elena Hut — 4,541m.

Today is the major summit day of your Rwenzori adventure. You will ascend toward the Elena Glacier before continuing across the Stanley Plateau and tackling the rocky and strenuous sections toward Margherita Peak at 5,109m. The summit attempt requires endurance, careful movement and appropriate preparation for high-altitude conditions.
After the summit attempt, descend toward Scott-Elliot Pass and take in views of Lake Bujuku and Mount Speke from the high slopes. You then continue toward Lake Kitandara and the hut where you will spend the night. This is expected to be the most physically demanding day of the trek.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking from Elena to Margherita Peak and Kitandara; approximately 8–10 hours on foot, depending on conditions.
Overnight: Kitandara Hut — 4,023m.

After breakfast, descend from Kitandara toward Guy Yeoman Hut at approximately 3,260m. The route initially involves a steep climb from the base of Mount Baker before continuing along sections offering views toward the Congo to the west and Mount Stanley to the north.
The trail then becomes increasingly boggy as you descend through the mountain landscape. Along the way, you will pass Bujangolo rock shelter, historically associated with the Duke of Abruzzi's 1906 Rwenzori expedition. Continue to Guy Yeoman Hut for dinner and a well-earned night's rest.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking from Kitandara to Guy Yeoman; approximately 6–8 hours on foot.
Overnight: Guy Yeoman Hut — 3,260m.

Today marks the end of your Rwenzori hiking experience. You will descend from Guy Yeoman through the changing mountain vegetation toward the Nyakalengija park gate at approximately 1,600m. The descent provides a final opportunity to appreciate the dramatic contrast between the high-altitude environment and the lower forests.
After completing the trek and meeting your driver-guide, transfer to your hotel for a well-deserved shower, relaxation and recovery. The remainder of the day is intentionally lighter after several demanding days in the mountains.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Mountain trekking to Nyakalengija, approximately 5–7 hours, followed by private vehicle transfer to your hotel.
Overnight: Hotel in Kasese area.

After breakfast, begin your journey south toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive takes you through the changing landscapes of southwestern Uganda toward the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift system. Enjoy lunch en route while your driver-guide shares information about the communities and landscapes along the journey.
Later, arrive in the Bwindi area and check into your accommodation. This evening provides time to relax and prepare for the following day's gorilla trekking experience.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private 4x4 safari vehicle; full-day transfer from Kasese to Bwindi with lunch en route.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After breakfast, proceed to the gorilla trekking visitor centre for a briefing before entering the forest. The tracking experience can take several hours depending on the location and movement of the gorilla family. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend approximately one hour observing them in their natural forest environment.
After returning from the forest, enjoy time to relax before visiting a nearby community. The community experience provides an opportunity to interact with local residents and gain a closer understanding of everyday life around Bwindi. Return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private vehicle to and from the gorilla tracking centre; trekking approximately 3+ hours depending on gorilla location.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After breakfast, set out for a nature walk through Bwindi Forest along the Ivy River Trail. This approximately four-hour walk takes you through a scenic section of the rainforest where you may encounter a variety of forest life, including monkeys, birds and butterflies.
The walk offers a completely different perspective of Bwindi after the previous day's gorilla experience, focusing on the wider ecosystem rather than a single wildlife encounter. Reach the Nteko Ridge, where your driver-guide will meet you before transferring you back to the lodge for lunch and an afternoon of relaxation.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private vehicle to and from the trail; approximately 4-hour nature walk.
Overnight: Lodge near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After an early breakfast, depart Bwindi and travel toward Mgahinga National Park, carrying a packed lunch for the day's activity. On arrival, prepare for a mountain experience around Mount Sabinyo, whose summit reaches approximately 3,600m. The area combines dramatic volcanic scenery with the possibility of encountering forest wildlife.
Keep watch for species such as bushbuck and, depending on the activity and conditions, the rare golden monkey. After the day's experience, return to your accommodation to rest and enjoy dinner.
Meals: Breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private 4x4 safari vehicle between Bwindi and Mgahinga, followed by mountain activity.
Overnight: Lodge near Mgahinga National Park.

Today you will explore Mgahinga National Park on a golden monkey tracking experience. The activity usually takes several hours as you follow the forest trails in search of these distinctive primates. The forest environment and volcanic backdrop add to the experience, making this a very different wildlife encounter from gorilla trekking.
Later, transfer toward Lake Bunyonyi for lunch and an afternoon around the lake. Depending on your arrangements and weather conditions, enjoy a boat experience among the beautiful islands before returning to your accommodation for dinner and your final night in southwestern Uganda.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Transport: Private vehicle and guided forest trek; approximately 5 hours for golden monkey tracking, followed by transfer to Lake Bunyonyi.
Overnight: Lodge at Lake Bunyonyi.

After breakfast, begin your final transfer. Depending on your onward travel arrangements, you can be transferred toward the Uganda–Rwanda border for continuation into Rwanda, or travel back toward Entebbe International Airport for your flight. Your driver-guide will coordinate the transfer according to the confirmed departure arrangements.
For the based itinerary, your Uganda journey concludes with your flight connection back to Entebbe International Airport, marking the end of your 14-day Rwenzori and gorilla adventure. Your international flight arrangements should allow sufficient connection time for the road transfer and airport check-in.
Meals: Breakfast.
Transport: Private 4x4 vehicle; transfer to the Uganda–Rwanda border or Entebbe, followed by onward flight to Entebbe International Airport where applicable.
